As we all know that gnome 3 is going to be released soon , there is a way by which we can take a preview of gnome 3 for this the following command is used .
yum install gnome-shell desktop-effect (this is for fedora)
Now to see the preview you have just navigate to the preferences->desktop effect
and select the Gnome 3 preview . Here is screenshot of this
